For the first time, the resonance strategy is being implemented at contemporary art fairs, where the artist and/or their curators speak. It is also an opportunity to open a dialogue with other artists representing other countries at the Biennale.

FRIEZE London 2021 

During the FRIEZE ART FAIR in London, she met the British artist of Afro-Caribbean origin Sonia Boyce, a long-time friend. Held at the Institut français in London on 15 October 2021, their conversation, hosted by curator Gilane Tawadros, allowed them to discuss their artistic approach, combining different generations, histories and geographies, as well as the consequences of the Black Lives Matter movement.

FIAC Paris 2021

During FIAC, Zineb Sedira spoke with curators Till Fellrath and Sam Bardaouil as part of the official "conversation rooms" programme on Saturday 23 October, to talk about their working process and their collaboration as artists and curators for the pavilion. 

On the same day at the FIAC in the Eiffel Lounge of the ephemeral Grand Palais, the artist presented, with curator Yasmina Reggad, the launch of the first issue of the pavilion's magazine, "Alger", which is followed by two other editions: Paris and Venice. These three editions constitute the catalogue of the artistic project. In a journal format, they present articles and contributions from theorists and academics, and reveal the research phase carried out by the artist and his curators around three cities of avant-garde cinema of the 1960s and 1970s, namely Algiers, Paris and Venice.

ART BASEL 2022

The Kunsthaus Baselland is presenting an exhibition as part of the Art Basel's "hors les murs" art programme, in partnership with Basel art venues, designed as a dialogue between Zineb Sedira and the artist Latifa Echakhch, who is representing the Swiss pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Kunsthaus director Ines Goldbach is the curator of this exhibition.

Zineb Sedira and Latifa Echakhch will be in conversation with Zoé Whitley, Director of Chisenhale Gallery, London, about their pioneering practices, shared interests and friendship. Representing France and Switzerland respectively at the Venice Biennale in 2022, they will discuss their respective exhibitions and their first joint project for Kunsthaus Baselland.

The conversation is part of DRIFT - a post-national digital pavilion that troubles the notion of working within the constructions of nation and nationhood.

Curator and researcher Léa Morin has designed a film programme for the Institut français' La Collection entitled "Le cinéma, une arme" (cinema as a weapon), divided into three parts: ciné-luttes, ciné-mouvements and ciné-geographies. 

This programme is made available to the French foreign cultural network and will be screened in Berlin (22 June 2022), London (September 2022) and Phnom Penh (November 2022). 

The programme resonates with the work of Zineb Sedira, who is committed to exploring alternative histories of colonialism and contested historical narratives, as well as interrogating the themes of collective memory and the transmission of such heritage. 

It questions the current political potential of past decolonial and anti-racist struggles. By exploring the relationship between cinema and reality, art and politics, and history and memory, the films in the programme raise the question of cinema and art as a means of action against social and political injustice.

In the presence of Nabil Djedouani, (filmmaker and archivist), Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath (co-curators of the French pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale with Yasmina Reggad). Moderated by Brigitta Kuster, film researcher, Humboldt University.

For "Dreams have no title" (French Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2022) Zineb Sedira uses autobiographical narrative, fiction and documentary to evoke, through cinema, past and present international solidarity linked to struggles for liberation.

In response, this programme proposes a plurality of voices and processes of cinematic reflection on the current political potential of past decolonial and anti-racist struggles. Le cinéma, une arme borrows its title from the programme of films and meetings organised by the Algerian Cinémathèque in parallel with the 4th Conference of Non-Aligned Countries in September 1973 in Algiers.
