Women behind the camera series

Members of French diplomatic network
Although the position of women in the film and audiovisual sectors is evolving towards equality, the struggle is far over. The Institut français presents a selection of French filmmakers who offer us their perspective on society, from well-known filmmakers including Marion Vernoux, Céline Sciamma and Patricia Mazuy to young talents such as Sou Abadi, Lucie Borleteau and Elsa Diringer, from comedy to thrillers and poetry to drama. A collection to escape discrimination and affirm the artistic legitimacy of these women and bring their works to the international stage.
Across all generations, female directors are increasingly present in the world of French film. They write, create, stage, direct, and more. They are many and talented. The aim here is not to define them by their gender: rather it is to highlight a particular French phenomenon.
Spotlight on women in cinema: 30 directors and as many visions for cinema.
