Having started out in comedy, a César-winner for Best Actress in Battle Cries (“Hauts les cœurs!") by Solveig Anspach, Karine Viard has spanned a variety of genres and registers in her career, alternating between dramas and comedies.

Karine Viard played many leading roles and character parts in the 1990s, establishing herself as a leading lady thanks to two films: The New Eve (“La Nouvelle Eve”) by Catherine Corsini and the Battle Cries by Solveig Anspach, which earned her the César for Best Actress in 2000. The actress is in high demand and works in a variety of registers: ensemble films directed by Cédric Klaphisch and François Ozon and hit comedies as well as darker works, such as Maiwenn's Polisse, for which she won the Globe de Cristal for Best Actress in 2012.
