Shoot the book !

Foreign professionals / French professionals
Organised at major film events around the world – The Cannes Film Festival, The Toronto International Film Festival, The American Film Market in Los Angeles – “Shoot the Book!” events are professional meetings between foreign producers and French publishers to discuss plans to adapt French works for the screen. They are the result of a partnership with the Civil Society of French-language publishers and the International Bureau of French Publishing.

Drawing on its ten years experience organising professional meetings at the Book Fair, and having noted the success with international producers of the five Cannes editions of Shoot the Book! , the SCELF and the Institut français in partnership with the Cannes Market and Film Festival, created "Shoot the Book! Rendez-vous", major international meetings between the publishing and audiovisual worlds at Cannes.

On 21st May 2019, these Rendez-vous will host around twenty French-speaking publishers and around twenty publishers and agents from other countries to present works to international producers with a view to adapting them. Each representative, publisher or agent registered for the Shoot the Book! Rendez-vous on 21st May 2019 will receive a complete package including entrance to the Film Market, access to the guides and the Cinando professional base, access to a Master-class on the financing of adaptations (the afternoon of 20th May), a reception at the Shoot the Book pitch session on the 21st in the morning, access to an appointment-making platform, a table for meetings with international producers from 15:00 to 18:00. A working lunch will be offered on 21st May at 1 p.m. to publishers and agents participating in the Shoot the Book! Rendez-vous.

Participants must have a catalogue of adaptable works with synopses in English. Each work presented must be the subject of a detailed info sheet highlighting its main characteristics from the perspective of adaptation: presentation of the topic, plot summary, main characters, place and historical period, etc. Many genres may be presented: novels, thrillers, non-fiction, drama, comedy, young adult, comic books, documentary work, etc. Producers will sign up to meet with participating publishers and agents, using an on-line scheduling platform specifically created for the event: Shoot the Book! Rendez-vous.

For the first time at Cannes, an event will make accessible in a single afternoon a catalogue of global literature, a repository of subjects of international scope, in all its richness and diversity.

Shoot the Book! Rendez-vous on Tuesday 21st May, from 15:00 to 18:00 at the Salon des Ambassadeurs du Palais des Festivals, is an initiative of the SCELF and the Institut français, in partnership with the Film Market, the BIEF, with the support of the CFC, the CNL, the SOFIA and the association La Culture avec la Copie Privée.
